Who wouldn’t want Fuzzi Bunz?

We’re trying to do what’s best for the environment AND our baby, but Aurora got a wicked diaper rash, so we had to switch to disposables for a while. Now she’s better, and we’ve switched back to cloth, but some of her 4th-hand diapers are a little threadbare and get soaked too quickly. Plus, Mommy’s grown fond of the more streamlined tush silhouette of the disposables (because it helps her pants and onesies fit better and last longer – we’re not vain or anything). My friends told me that these new Fuzzi Bunz diapers are thinner and absorb better than regular cloth diapers, so I decided to get some to replace some of our older diapers. I just won my first eBay auction, for a dozen Fuzzi Bunz, and I’m looking forward to trying them out when they arrive.

Getting Ready for Lemons

Aurora made a new face today. She’s either working on hiding her gorgeous lips for when strangers compliment her or she’s imagining the taste of lemons. (Thanks to Heather for the cute T)

Mommy Wrist

Who knew you could get a specific form of tendonitis particular to new moms? Well, apparently it’s very common, so when I asked our doctor about it, she sent me right away to physiotherapy to get it looked after. Here’s Jane, my physiotherapist, trying to keep Aurora happy while my new splint was hardening to conform to the shape of my wrist:

I’ll be wearing the splint whenever I lift a weight that’s more than a few pounds (like a baby), but I don’t have to wear it for sleeping or doing dishes and stuff. In a few weeks, once the swelling goes down, she’ll give me some exercises and stretches to do. Right now the pain’s not too bad, but Aurora’s not getting any lighter, so it’s good to get it under control now instead of waiting for it to get more serious.

In other health news, although Mommy’s had a cold for about a week, and Daddy had it before that, Aurora has shown no sign of getting it. I guess those antibodies they’re always telling us are transferred through the breast milk are actually working (or she’s just darn lucky).

Cool New Tunes

For the past two weeks we’ve been listening constantly to Sing-a-Longs and Lullabies, Jack Johnson’s soundtrack for the Curious George movie, and Jim Henson: A Sesame Street Celebration. Great songs from Sesame Street include old favourites like “Rubber Duckie,” “Dance Myself to Sleep,” and “Bein’ Green,” as well as new (to me) songs like “Captain Vegetable,” and Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s “African Alphabet Song”. We’re also learning great Jack Johnson songs like “The 3 R’s” and “The Sharing Song.” Aurora seems to really love watching Mommy sing to her, and occasionally tries to pitch in with ear-piercing squeals. Yikes! Let’s hope her musicality improves with her other skills!

(Thanks to Stephanie for the Curious George soundtrack and thanks to the Vancouver Public Library for the Jim Henson album)

Busy Saturday

Boy, did we have a big day Saturday! Some highlights include:

Raking the backyard lawn with Daddy

tiny-hat-model.jpg

Modeling the baby version of Bruce’s fabulous knit hat, and

cakewalk-couple.jpg

Alex and Selena’s “cakewalk” baby shower, held at our house.

Aurora was a trooper, and held out to the very end with smiles for everyone, but preferred to be held by Mommy and Daddy. It seems her “stranger anxiety” has begun!

Here’s another vintage 1972 outfit, this one made for Mommy by Great-Grandma Ann. It fits Aurora perfectly!
